With the half-way point of the semester basically here, I figure it is time for a bit of an update.
First, if you were checking the site a few weeks ago, you probably saw a variety of things happening. I was experimenting with different designs. I wasn’t satisfied with any of them, so the original design is back. It will remain for the conceivable future.
Second, I have not been posting assignments or class announcements on this site. I have determined that is not a logical use for this site since students don’t need to come to here as regularly as they log into the Learning Management System.
Third, I have decided on at least one use for this site for the time being. Since I want it to be a resource and I’m not posting more daily type updates, I am going to share articles and other pieces of interest and observations of interest to my particular classes. However, the idea is that such posts won’t necessarily just be applicable to one class. They might be targeted at a given class based upon what we have been discussing, but ideally they will have something of interest for all of my students.
In short, I’m taking a different approach. Again, this experiment may not work, but I think it is a better plan than my initial conception of this site. I often tell my students they need to be flexible and versatile to see success in the journalism and media industry. I’d like to think I’m demonstrating that by being willing to continually review and redirect with my own work.
